BBC ‘iPlayer for keeps’

The BBC is going to let you keep some downloads – if you pay for it.

Roly Keating, who heads the corporation’s archive team, has just confirmed that it is going ahead¬†following a talk by director general Mark Thompson on¬†a kind of ‘iPlayer for keeps, no returns’.

Beeb to broadcast theatre

Looks like the BBC is getting away from the soundstage and onto the stage as the broadcaster has announced it’s to transmit stage productions.

A new online channel called The Space is being set up by the BBC and Arts Council England to show arts programmes – among them productions by the Bristol Old Vic, Birmingham Opera Company,¬†Shakespeare’s Globe and Saddler’s Wells as well as other theatres.
